ORIGINAL ACRES — STILL FARMED TODAY
The Marshall family’s roots in the Sanger area date back to the early 1900s, when Hugh M. Marshall purchased 160 acres northeast of Sanger in 1917 — land that the family still farms today. What began as a small farming operation has grown and evolved over more than a century, with each generation adding its own direction and improvements to the farm.

Hugh M. Marshall Purchases Original Ranch
160 acres northeast of Sanger — the foundation of everything that follows. The family farmed figs, wheat, table and raisin grapes, plums, and nectarines, always playing a role beyond the field in processing, packing, and moving what they grew.
1954
H.M. Marshall & Son Established
Hugh M. Marshall Jr. established the first family-owned produce farming business, which formally expanded the family’s role in agriculture, strengthening their connection to the industry and laying the groundwork for generations of involvement beyond the farm.
1980
Eastern Juice & the Wine Grape Market
Richard Marshall expanded into wine grapes through Eastern Juice, supplying home winemakers on the East Coast and in Canada — the family’s first chapter in a long relationship with wine.

The Current Generation
For Josh,
the vineyard has always been part of his life.
He grew up riding alongside his father, visiting vineyards, inspecting fruit, and helping prepare grapes for shipment. His path — from Fresno State to UC Davis Extension, from picking grapes to earning competition awards — was shaped by the land he grew up on, and the encouragement of his wife Jenifer.
